Given the strong push since last year, the increasing numbers of EVs in Malaysia means that the sales and aftersales networks must be in place to support customers. The thing is that many of the brands selling EVs are new to the market so they do not have the benefit of an established network built up over decades.
Teamed up with Sime Darby Motors
BYD is among the brands and while it is new to Malaysia, it has teamed up with Sime Darby Motors which has long experience in the local auto business. The Sime Darby subsidiary has been involved in auto retail and distribution since the 1980s and has now gotten into the EV business with its subsidiary, Sime Darby Beyond Auto, which handles the BYD brand.
Continuing to build its network, two new BYD Centres have been opened in Penang and Johor Bahru, providing customers access to the brand at both ends of the peninsular. Both are situated in shopping malls, making access convenient.
“The response to BYD in the Malaysian market has been overwhelmingly positive, clearly demonstrating growing adoption of EVs in the country. We are pleased to build up our momentum with this expansion drive to continue serving increasing EV demand amongst consumers across Malaysia with BYD’s innovative vehicles,” said Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Darby Motors Retail and Distribution – Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Macau.
Aftersales centres in three locations
Aftersales service centres have already been opened in the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor, equipped with the necessary equipment and trained personnel to provide support and maintenance for the growing number of owners of the ATTO 3. BYD has an integrated management of parts distribution to ensure sufficient supply of spare parts for its vehicles nationwide.
