UMW Toyota Motor has announced the commencement of order-taking for the enhanced and upgraded Toyota Hilux, Fortuner and GR86. Orders can be made at authorised Toyota dealerships nationwide (GR86 only at 9 GR Garage dealerships).
“We are excited to introduce these enhanced models to the market, embodying our ‘Move Your World’ philosophy by delivering vehicles that align with the aspirations and needs of our customers,” said Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor.
Toyota Hilux – from RM104,880
Although it has been Malaysia’s best-selling pick-up truck for 20 years, the spirit of kaizen (constant improvement) sees it receiving enhancements to driving safety and convenience.
The Hilux 2.4 Single Cab, a popular choice as a workhorse, now has Vehicle Stability Control as standard, significantly improving handling.
Remote Engine Start, a first for Toyota models, is also available on selected versions of the Hilux. This feature, which allows the owner to start the vehicle from outside, uses the Toyota MY app on a smartphone. So the engine can be started and the air-conditioner activated to cool down the cabin before entering.
The Panoramic View Monitor, which provides a simulated 3D view of the vehicle (including an overhead view), is standard with the Hilux 2.8 GR Sport, Hilux 2.8 Rogue, and Hilux 2.4V. Also standard for the Hilux 2.8 GR Sport and Hilux 2.8 Rogue is a wireless charger pad for compatible smartphones which have the feature. It is also available as an option for other versions, except for the Hilux 2.4 Single Cab.
Toyota Fortuner – from RM195,800
One of the original models in Toyota’s IMV (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle) project, this mid-sized SUV has received refinements over the years, in line with Toyota’s quest to provide ever better cars. Now it can also have a sportier image with an optional all-new GR Bodykit.
Like the latest Hilux, the Fortuner also gets Remote Engine Start convenience to get the petrol (Fortuner 2.7 SRZ) or turbodiesel (Fortuner 2.8 VRZ) running before getting in. This is possible with the connectivity provided by the versatile Toyota MY app that the owner can install on a smartphone.
Toyota GR86 – from RM295,000
The GR range of models are high-performance products that have been developed in collaboration with the GAZOO Racing Team that represents Toyota in global motorsports. They incorporate many of the lessons learnt from participating in events such as the World Endurance Championship and World Rally championship.
The GR86 is the successor of the 86 coupe and descendent of the original Corolla AE86 Levin/Trueno of the 1980s. The latest version, available with automatic and manual transmissions, has received engineering refinements to enhance the driving experience.
The main objective of these improvements has been to heighten focus on handling and responsiveness. Throttle response has been tuned to provide better controllability at the limits, while the suspension has been refined for improved handling response and road feel.
The electric power steering system has also been recalibrated for a more direct and engaging steering experience.
Though hardcore driving enthusiasts would prefer the manual transmission (above), Toyota engineers have made sure that the GR86 can still be enjoyable to drive with an automatic transmission. Enhancements made in the transmission control unit allow for higher engine rpm after downshifts, providing drivers with greater control as they power through corners.
Front and rear Digital Video Recorders are now installed as standard and capture high-definition video with a wide-angle lens. Besides recording every journey (the DVR starts automatically), a recording can also be useful in disputes during an incident as it will provide visual evidence.
