Although BMW had a running electric car (the 1602 Electric) as far back as 1972, it is only in the past 11 years that it has undertaken volume production of EVs. Since then, the carmaker has delivered one million fully electric vehicles worldwide with the i3 – which was the first EV model – having contributed 250,000 units to that milestone between 2013 and 2022.
Other powertrain choices still available
However, even as the BMW Group continues with a wide range of battery electric vehicles, it will continue to offer other powertrain choices.
“By providing a choice of drivetrain technologies and thanks to our high level of flexibility, the BMW Group is well-positioned to meet changing customer requirements. This strategy is now proving particularly effective in a dynamic market environment,” said Jochen Goller, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales.
