Collectors who want to own big pieces of motorsport history can now acquire LMP and DTM prototypes from Audi Sport’s factory racing programs. These racing cars are being made available through the newly-created Audi Sport racing legends project which offers them for purchase as exclusive objects in drivable condition.
The buyers, who will become a select circle, not only become owners, but also part of one of Audi Sport’s most successful eras by purchasing an original chassis and will receive continued expertise from Audi Sport.
“Customers can look forward not only to extremely sought-after racing cars, but also to a firework display of driving emotions. We are rebuilding these chassis together with reconditioned parts from that time into racing cars according to strict standards and with a high level of expertise,” said Rolf Michl, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH.
Potential customers were able to take a look at the first two models at an event last week where Audi displayed presented 2 cars – chassis 107 of the RS 5 DTM and chassis 207 of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro. Both were two of the fastest racing cars Audi Sport has ever built.
With this chassis of the R18, Romain Dumas/Loic Duval/Marc Gene took the first victory of the newly developed RP2 generation in the FIA World Endurance Championship WEC at Spa-Francorchamps in 2012. The chassis of the DTM model is also a winner – in 2015, it triumphed with Timo Scheider at the DTM finale in Hockenheim.
Following that event, Audi Sport will also participate at 3 international classic car events in Germany, France and Great Britain. The first unit will be handed over to its new in the middle of this year.
The new owners will get comprehensive support to maintain and keep their prized racing cars in top condition. There will be regular technical inspections, repairs if necessary, and a spare parts service will also be available. Some former developers of the cars will also be able to give expert advice.
