The latest Proton X70 (2025 model year) finally gets Apple CarPlay for its infotainment system, giving owners the popular connectivity option that was much requested.
Thanks to Over-The-Air (OTA) technology already available in the SUV, owners do not have to go to an authorised Proton service centre for the upgrade. It will be sent ‘over the air’ like updates for your smartphone apps and automatically installed to update the infotainment system.
From October 16
Proton says that the OTA updates will be transmitted in batches, starting from October 16, 2024. Owners will receive notifications of the update for their vehicle and can then have it downloaded for installation.
It is important to note that the engine must be kept running while the download is underway. However, once the installation package is downloaded, the owner can carry out installation when they wish to do so. Again, when the installation process is underway, the engine needs to remain running until it is completed.
A successful software update can be verified in the Vehicle Settings under [System Information] > [About IHU]. The latest system version is SW3RBA10925H1141. This version of Apple CarPlay has improved system performance and various bug fixes for an enhanced user experience.
When Apple CarPlay is installed, the owner or passenger can pair a compatible iPhone via USB or wireless (Bluetooth) connection. Once successfully paired to the system, the Apple CarPlay interface will become available on the 12.3-inch touchscreen.
