With 9.650 units of the Isuzu D-MAX delivered nationwide in 2023, the pick-up truck set a new record for Isuzu Malaysia. The new record reaffirms the model’s impressive design and features that have made it a popular choice, an achievement that is mirrored by a growing global fan base.
Second record-breaking year
This is the second consecutive year of record sales for the model which is the third generation of the D-MAX. With a comprehensive range of 8 D-MAX variants available – from the hard-working Single Cab to the sophisticated and highly-desirable X-Terrain flagship – customers have been able to to find the perfect model for their budget and requirements.
1.9-litre engine most popular
According to Isuzu Malaysia, the most popular variant was again the 1.9-litre Standard which accounted for 28% of sales in 2023. This variant has been particularly popular due to its modest engine displacement that offers the benefit of lower roadtax and lower running costs, yet offering spirited performance from its impressively generous power and torque output.
The capability of the Blue Power 1.9-litre turbodiesel 4-cylinder engine (shown above) was proven in the Isuzu Malaysia Dura Miles Challenge in 2020 when a D-MAX with the engine travelled from the Isuzu-HICOM factory in Pekan, Pahang across the Main Range to Shah Alam, Selangor. It carried a load of 1,000 kgs over a distance of more than 1,000 kms and consumed fuel at a rate of 13.7 kms/litre.
Trendsetting X-Terrain model
Demand for the flagship X-Terrain variant also continued on a positive uptrend in 2023, bolstered by its exceptional finish, high level of sophistication and capabilities both on and off the highway. As a trendsetter in its segment, the D-MAX X-Terrain has seen its sales grow by an impressive 24.5% since it was launched.
One reason for this popularity: the numerous class-leading features which include a full suite of Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) and a generous 7-year unlimited mileage warranty.
No.3 in truck segment nationally
The consistently strong demand for the D-MAX has taken the brand rise to the No.2 position (pick-up trucks) in Sabah, Kedah and Pahang in the segment, and raised it to No.3 position nationwide with a 16.6% market share.
“Since the third-generation D-MAX was introduced in Malaysia in 2021, interest in this model has remained consistently high, thanks to its good features, excellent driving character, versatile operation and impressive value for money. This new model has expanded our customer base by increasing our conquest sales by 185% while retaining our strong core customer base,” said Isuzu Malaysia’s CEO, Shunsuke Okazoe.
“This third-generation has been a revelation for the brand as it combines the best of Isuzu’s engineering capability with the modern sophistication and mindful ergonomics that customers today demand. This makes the D-MAX a very capable yet liveable pick-up truck, satisfying every pick-up user’s needs. It is a truck for all,” added Mr. Okazoe.
