It seemed like just last week, we were writing about the 2023 Art of Speed and once again, the event was held over the weekend. This year see the 13th edition of the AOS, again held at the spacious Malaysia Agro Exposition Park, Serdang (MAEPS) outside Kuala Lumpur.
Since its humble beginnings at a shopping centre, the event has kept growing in stature and scope, known even outside Malaysia and attracting various international guests of a high calibre, especially in the automotive and motorcycle custom culture field.
AOS 2024 also marked a special collaboration with Selangor FC (SFC) in support of the club’s campaign – Stop The Violence – crossing over from football to automotive lifestyle. Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, attended the event on Sunday to officiate the collaboration and did a tour of AOS 2024.
The 2-day event also hosted the Official Hot Wheels Collectors Convention Malaysia for the second time, providing a venue for fan and collectors of the die-cast brand to gather, exchange notes and make new friends in the community.
This year’s event also saw the launch of the first ever convention exclusive die-cast model from the Mattel factory for Malaysia with Hot Wheels Design Manager – Vehicles, Dwayne Vance (pictured above right), on hand.
Instead of the usual outdoor festival (risky with unpredictable weather nowadays), the SoundCircus Takeover returned as an indoor experience. This year, the line-up included Spider, Gerhana Ska Cinta, Salam Musik, Jemson X Forcesparkbois, Slatan, 53 Universe and many more crowd-pleasers.
Each year, all visitors have a chance to win goodies and lucky draw giveaways. For this year’s giveaway, there was a paid trip to Japan for the 32nd Annual MOONEYES Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 2024 and the lucky winner was Fitri Wahyudi B Suparno.
Another lucky visitor to AOS 2024 was Muhammad Farish b. Mohd Fadzil who took home a modified Honda Jazz (in collaboration between AOS X QARTEL TV).
This year’s Art of Speed Invitational Bike Build Off 2024 featured 10 talented builders competing to wow the jury selection and public choice. The overall winner was Irwann Cheng from FNG Works with their amazing RXZ Twin Boss V2. FNG Works took home a RM5,000 cash prize for the public choice and will have their custom bike shipped to Japan for the 32nd Annual MOONEYES Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 2024 as the jury-picked winner.
Other activities included Roda Rumble 2024 (a Two Wheels Gathering & Outdoor Festival supported by Retro Mania), La Cultura (Malaysia’s Chicano Culture Appreciation Gathering), Automotive flea market, and a Test Ride Zone for bikes.
Two days is probably too short for such a major event but there’s always next year, and we’re sure the folks at AOS are already planning for a bigger and better one.
