While EVs can use the same sort of tyres as cars with combustion engines, it is better to install tyres that are EV-Ready as they are designed to provided optimum performance with such vehicles. Besides being heavier (mainly due to the battery pack), EVs also need to rolling resistance to be as low as possible and also withstand the higher torque generated that is typical of drivetrains.
For over a decade, Continental has been actively developing tyres that can also suit EVs which have specific requirements. Its tyres are chosen as original factory fitment by 10 highest-volume manufacturers of fully electric vehicles. These manufacturers include BMW, BYD, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Smart, and Volvo.
“As we witness a transformative shift towards electric mobility, Continental remains committed to leading the way with innovative tyre solutions. Our tyres are designed not only to enhance performance but also to meet the unique requirements of alternative drive systems. Our product line-up caters to a variety of vehicles, including fuel-powered, hybrid, and fully electric, and incorporates advanced technologies tailored to the specific demands of the Malaysian market. Our mission is to ensure every Malaysian experiences a drive defined by safety, comfort and efficiency,” said Andrea Somorova, Managing Director of Continental Tyre Malaysia.
