Nissan has released detailes of the Z NISMO this week, alongside the latest Fairlady Z for the new model year.
The NISMO version of the Z (also known as Fairlady Z in Japan) which was launched in August 2022 has cosmetic differences in its appearance which highlight its much sportier character. The front grille, front and rear bumpers, fender moldings, side sill protectors, rear spoiler, and rear LED fog lamps have all been developed exclusively for NISMO.
Thinnest honycomb mesh grille
The front grille mesh has a honeycomb design with low airflow resistance, which was also used in the 2024 Nissan GT-R. This works with the wind-skimming air guide slope to maximize cooling efficiency. Incidentally, it is the thinnest honeycomb mesh of any Nissan production car.
Aerodynamic performance has been given priority, especially downforce at higher speeds. Along with the low centre of gravity of the sportscar, the increased downforce enhances stability at high speeds.
The wheels, newly installed 19-inch forged aluminium painted in glossy black, balance rigidity and weight reduction through a 9-radial spoke design – even with increased rim width.
More powerful engine
Naturally, having NISMO badge means that the powertrain would be uprated from the standard one. In the case of the Z NISMO, the engineers have tuned the engine to develop 420 ps/520 Nm, up from the standard output of 405 ps/475 Nm.
The engine’s enhancements were achieved through a combination of improved cooling, revised electronic wastegate control providing increased turbocharger boost and turbine speed, and an independent ignition spark timing strategy inspired by the GT-R NISMO. There’s also an enhanced engine oil cooler for extended track performance.
In addition, with the higher output, transmission durability has been enhanced to enable more agile Shift response has been quickened as well (by almost half).
Sport+ mode
There are also 3 drive modes, including NISMO’s exclusive SPORT+ mode. This is a more dynamic, racetrack-tuned shift program for circuit driving, taking advantage of the powertrain’s faster downshift capability.
The shift programming is designed to be so responsive for performance driving that a driver does not need to use the shift paddles on track.
Enhancement of torsional rigidity of the steering and body, chassis and traction tuning allow the driver to more precisely track the car through turns.
NISMO treatment within
The interior also get NISMO treatment with exclusive sports seats designed by Recaro. These combine black perforated Alcantara with leather material for both a non-slip and high-quality texture.
Building on the equipment offered on the Performance grade, interior enhancements include red-anodized engine-start and drive mode buttons, and a leather and Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with a red marker at the 12 o’clock position.
Much of the cabin layout is similar to the standard Z which was originally designed with a sporty cockpit layout. For this generation, the designers have used ideas from earlier models. The centre stack, for instance, has a classic look with three analogue meters on top of the dashboard.
At the same time, to bring the Z into the 21st century, there is also an 8-inch display to manage the infotainment system and other functions.
The Z NISMO is available with 5 body colour choices: Black Diamond Pearl, Brilliant Silver, Passion Red TriCoat, Everest White Pearl TriCoat and a 2-tone Steel Grey/Super Black exclusive to NISMO. In America, the exclusive colour is known as Stealth Grey.
