After the TANK 300, GWM Malaysia will be introducing the TANK 500 HEV for those who want a larger SUV with the same off-road capability. The TANK 500 is the second model in the automaker’s TANK range which lays claim to being the No.1 Chinese off-road brand in the world.
Market leader in China
This title has been achieved with cumulative sales of over 600,000 units since the TANK 300 was launched in 2020. It also held China’s best-selling off-road SUV title for 52 consecutive months with over 50% market share.
As the number indicates, the TANK 500 would be positioned above the TANK 300. The 7-seater measures 5078 mm in length (318 mm longer than the TANK 300), 1934 mm in width, and 1905 mm in height, with a 2850 mm wheelbase.
Hybrid electric powertrain
The version imported to Malaysia will have a hybrid electric powertrain with a 2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The output of 346 ps/648 Nm goes through a 9-speed hybrid automatic transmission to all 4 wheels with an M-Lock to deliver power more effectively to the ground.

Engineered for the toughest off-road missions, the TANK 500 has an Intelligent All-terrain system with 11 driving modes. Thanks to its TANK Turn feature, its turning circle can be reduced while Off-road Cruise Control reduces driver fatigue when travelling off the highway.
Premium features and equipment
Buyers can expect premium features and equipment, as we have seen with the TANK 300. These include NAPPA leather upholstery, an Infinity sound system, electric side steps, and front seats with both massage and ventilation functions.
The estimated price is below RM350,000 (the TANK 300 is RM250,000) and bookings are now accepted by 14 authorised GWM dealers nationwide. Quite likely, the new SUV will have its official sales launch at the 2025 Malaysia Auto Show next month.
