Nissan Kicks e-POWER performance demonstrated on cross-border drive

Nissan recently demonstrated the capabilities of its e-POWER drivetrain with the ‘Kickstart Fun Adventures with Kicks e-POWER’ event from Hat Yai in Thailand to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Media representatives from Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia participated in the cross-border roadtrip, the first such event for the Kicks e-POWER in the ASEAN region.

650-km all-electric drive
The event started off in Hat Yai, a popular tourist destination in Southern Thailand, and crossed into Malaysia at Betong. The 650-km journey then continued southwards to Ipoh, a city historically well known for its association with tin mining, before ending in Malaysia’s capital city in the Klang Valley.

The route offered a wide variety of roads and surfaces – from city streets and highways to winding roads through rolling hills. The different conditions allowed the participants to experience the responsive handling of the Kicks e-POWER. On open roads, they could fully experience the strong acceleration from the electric drive which powers the front wheels at all times.

Manual recharging not needed
While having the characteristics and benefits of the fully electric vehicle, the Kicks e-POWER has one important difference: it does not need to be stopped for recharging. Nissan developed the e-POWER technology with a small petrol engine which recharges the battery when necessary. So the driver does not have to worry about finding a charging station. When the fuel level is low, he just needs to pop into a petrol station to fill up the tank – and there’s usually a station nearby.

During the journey, the participants also got to use the e-Pedal Step which makes driving less tiring. There is no need to step on the brake pedal to decelerate as operation of the accelerator pedal can adjust the speed. Eco and Sport driving modes offer the flexibility to enhance responsiveness or maximize fuel efficiency and where the latter is concerned, the Kicks e-POWER can travel a very long distance before refuelling is needed.

Nissan 360 Safety Shield
Like most Nissan passenger cars, the Kicks e-POWER comes with Nissan 360 Safety Shield to protect the occupants from injuries. This has advanced features such as Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and Intelligent Emergency Braking, while the Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection (MOD) keeps the driver aware of the surroundings.
