You can still get the Early Bird offer for the Nissan Kicks e-POWER

With its electrified powertrain, the new Nissan Kicks e-POWER in Malaysia launched recently at the KL International Mobility Show has certainly attracted a lot of attention – and sales – that the first 500 units with introductory pricing and a 10-year/160,000-km EV components warranty have almost been fully taken up.

Offer for another 500 customers
Seeing such demand, Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) has decided to extend the Early Bird offer for another 500 units so if you thought you missed out on the offer, it’s still available so don’t waste time going to the showroom.

The Kicks e-POWER is available in two variants – VL and VLT – priced at RM113,800 and RM121,800. For the first 1,000 buyers, there is a RM5,000 rebate, reducing the prices to RM108,800 and RM116,800, respectively. Those who want a bit more distinctiveness can opt for the VLT with a 2-tone finish with a contrasting roof colour for an additional RM4,000.

The colour choices available are Brilliant White Pearl, Sunrise Orange, Red Pearl, Brilliant Silver and Black Star. The VLT version with 2-tone option can also be ordered in an exclusive colour of Dark Metal Grey, with a black roof.

Electrified but not a traditional hybrid
For those who are still not familiar with the e-POWER system in this new SUV, ETCM emphasises that while it’s an electrified powertrain with a petrol engine and electric motor present, it’s not like a traditional hybrid electric system. The vehicle is powered only by the electric motor – just like a fully electric vehicle – and the existence of the 1.2-litre engine is to charge the lithium-ion battery.

The engine doesn’t run all the time so there are savings in fuel, enabling a range of up to 900 kms with the relatively small 41-litre fuel tank. On a test-drive by Malaysian motoring media to Melaka, the cost per kilometre proved to be 12 sen/km over a distance of 231 kms.

While the Kicks e-POWER runs on just an electric motor like a fully electric vehicle, the driver doesn’t have to worry about looking for a recharging station at all. As mentioned earlier, the engine does the charging when needed, keeping it topped up, and there is also some additional energy during regenerative braking.

No need to find charging station
That recharging is not needed is probably the key selling point. Having to recharge periodically means searching for a charging station and though the number of stations continues to grow, many people worry about not being able to find one and running out of ‘fuel’. With the Kicks e-POWER, that worry is eliminated and they only need to refuel at a petrol station which is readily available all over.
