BRABUS is a name which car enthusiasts will recognise, being the name of the German aftermarket tuning company that has specialised in enhancing vehicle performance (especially Mercedes-Benz models) to extreme levels.
The company also uses in expertise for boats, motorcycles and even jetboards, and now it adds motorhomes to its portfolio. With STX Motorhomes, a Belgian specialists in exclusive recreational vehicles, the BRABUS BIG BOY 1200 has been created for those who want to go on long road trips and have comfortable accommodation as well as a workplace on wheels.
As long as 3 Perodua Myvis
The BIG BOY 1200 is a motorhome 12 metres long (equivalent to 3 Perodua Myvis), 2.5 metres wide and 4 metres high. Its thermally-insulated aluminium sandwich-design bodywork sits on a galvanized steel profile chassis. The 3-axle chassis has 2 sets of dual tyres on each side at the rear.
12.8-litre engine
With a BRABUS badge on it, a powerful engine would be expected, of course. The ‘1200’ gives a clue to the engine size: a 12.8-litre 6-cylinder turbodiesel which produces an output of 523 bhp/2,600 Nm to enable a top speed of 90 km/h. The actual maximum speed is higher but is limited to 90 km/h for safety reasons.
The motorhome comes with an all-black exterior with carbonfibre elements and LED lights. Hydraulic jacks level the vehicle perfectly and thus ensure that the vehicle is safe and stable even on uneven ground. Passengers get in and out of the passenger cabin through a door with electrically retractable stairs on the right side.
Two modules
In deployed position, the two modules in the sleeping compartment create space for the comfortable, sideways positioned double bed measuring 160 x 200 cm. Two electrically powered slide-outs on each side can expand the width of the bedroom and the salon to 4.50 metre.
Both modules are separated by a luxurious bathroom, with a kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances also on board. A large closet is integrated into the rear wall of the motorhome. The wall across from the bed integrates a desk and a 43-inch 4K TV.
As on the identical set in the salon, passengers in this ‘supervehicle’ can not only watch TV and play games on the PlayStation 5 console, but with satellite internet via Starlink, can also watch streaming services and other internet content or communicate from anywhere in the world.
The more than 30 square metres of living space has been outfitted with a BRABUS MASTERPIECE interior using the finest leather, Alcantara and carbonfibre for maximum comfort and a luxurious ambience throughout.
Large double-glazed windows, which can be blacked out at any time with integral roller shades, in concert with the power skylights create a light and pleasant ambience. The energy supply for the is provided by a hybrid system comprising 8 solar panels on the roof, an energy storage unit and a generator. Just as important for longer excursions are the large tanks for fresh and wastewater.
Each BIG BOY 1200 is built to order so a customer can customise it extensively. Prices starts 1,260,504 euros (about RM6.01 million) in Germany.
