Big gathering of Nissan GT-Rs in Malaysia next month

If you own a Nissan GT-R R35 or are a fan of one of the legendary cars from Japan, be at the Crowne Plaza Penang Straits City on October 4 – 6, 2024 where there will be a huge gathering of GT-Rs. The event in Butterworth is one of the activities being held prior to the Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur which will be from November 8 – 10, 2024.

By bringing together GT-R owners from all over the country, it is hoped that a record can be set for the largest GT-R gathering in Malaysia and gain a listing in the Malaysia Book of Records.

Hiroshi Tamura, Father of the modern GT-R.

Father of the modern GT-R
The organisers are also inviting one of the ‘fathers’ of the GT-R – Hiroshi Tamura – who was the third chief engineer (or product specialist, as Nissan refers to the product team leaders) after Kazutoshi Mizuno (Godfather of the GT-R), and Shin’ichiro Sakurai, who developed the original Skyline.

Tamura was the ‘father of the modern GT-R’, having been assigned the project in 2006 after Carlos Ghosn had approved it and took the model to production after its global debut in 2007.

Tamura is also a racing driver and videogame influencer. He was one of the individuals who from the beginning had supported the aspirations of computer whiz and Polyphonics Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi who was working to develop a realistic driving videogame later to be known Gran Turismo for Playstation.

Two packages
As for the gathering, there are two categories  – Elite and the Ultimate Elite – with package prices of RM1,999 and RM3,499, respectively, inclusive of 3 days/2 nights accommodation (for 2 persons) at the Crowne Plaza Penang Straits City.

Besides being able to meet the Father of the modern GT-R, owners will be able to go for a morning breakfast drive along Penang’s second bridge to Setia Spice, participate in a video and photo shoot of the gathering, party and meet other owners, and receive 2 complimentary tickets to the Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur.
