Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) will be making a bid for a listing in the Malaysia Book of Records. The record VPCM is aiming for is The Largest Gathering of Volkswagen Golf owners and enthusiasts in the country. This gathering will be at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit on August 24, 2024.
The record is being pursued in the 50th anniversary year of the Golf, among the top all-time bestselling cars in the world with more than 37 million sold to date.
The bid will also be part of the 2024 Golf Fan Fest for owners of the car as well as fans. There will be a spectrum of fun-filled events, including activities that show off the driving dynamics of the latest Golf models (which are assembled in Malaysia). These will include a gymkhana driving challenge competition, Golf R drift taxi rides and on-track sessions.
To show how the Golf has evolved over 5 decades, there will be a showcase of the different generations spanning from the Mk. 1 to the current Mk.8. The model has been available in Malaysia since the first generation and has a strong following of enthusiasts around the country.
Eight of these enthusiasts will compete for the Grand Prize and title of country’s biggest Golf fan during the celebrations. They are finalists of the Volkswagen’s Biggest Golf Fan contest which was held on social media over the past month.
The will also be Golf Showdown where owners can show off their car. If it’s more than just ‘another Golf’ with personalisation that makes it unique, an attractive prize could be won.
Visitors will also be able to test-drive the range of Volkswagen models from VPCM and also insights with tech talks and workshops covering various aspects of Golf ownership.
