LEVC, which started in 1908 as The London Taxi Cab Company, will soon launch its premium Multi-Purpose Vehicle as the first of a new range of fully electric models. These new models will see LEVC (which became part of the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group in 2013) accelerate its transition from a high-end taxi manufacturer to a leading provider of e-mobility solutions.
The first model will be the L380, which was previewed last December and production is underway at a factory in China. Following the launch soon, the L380 will be exported to other markets over the next 2 years.
At a design event held in Hangzhou recently, LEVC provided more information and also revealed what the interior looks like. Using the Geely Group’s Space Oriented Architecture (SOA) for fully electric vehicles, the L380 offers an exceptionally spacious and luxurious experience, whether for families or business users.
The airy, sophisticated space has premium materials throughout, inspired by the world of luxury airline travel. There are first class-style chairs, clad in soft, delicate semi-aniline leather with seating for up to 8 persons. The seats, contrasted with Alcantara fabrics, bright chrome and crystals, can fold flat for sleeping.
Distinctive details include an organic, floating dashboard and a 2.18 square meter panoramic glass roof. This provides lots of natural light and when closed, Intelligent illumination creates a luxurious atmosphere for the occupants.
Exquisite elements that reflect the L380’s integration of international cultures can be seen in the traditional Chinese Ruyi-shaped air vents and a meteor shower cabin lighting effect, which integrates the iconic Tower Bridge and Big Ben in London.
On the outside, the MPV design has a simple yet technical and elegant shape inspired by aircraft aerodynamics and accentuated by precisely honed details such as a floating roof and wheels (influenced by the iconic London Eye observation wheel).
While LEVC has access to the extensive vehicle development resources of the Geely Group, it also has its own Design & Innovation Centre in England. Here, leading designers from many countries and renowned luxury car brands form focus on the design of future SOA-based LEVC models.
“With more than a century of ‘mobility’ in its DNA, LEVC has always focused on meeting the needs of society by transporting people around urban areas. The innovative SOA technology on which L380 sits spearheads our exciting new strategy that will see the business take a global approach, growing our footprint across the world. We aim to have a presence in over 40 countries in the coming years, with multiple new models based on the SOA platform leading the way,” added Alex Nan, CEO of LEVC.
