Smartlane from Shah Alam to Subang Jaya NKVE exits starts tomorrow

Motorists travelling along the NKVE (New Klang Valley Expressway) between Shah Alam and Subang Jaya will have an extra lane with the activation of the Smartlane from Monday, February 5, 2024. The Smartlane will be between KM11.20 and KM13.30 on the side going towards Exit 104 to Subang Jaya and the Federal Highway.

The Smartlane will be active between 6:30 am and 9:30 am from Mondays to Fridays, except when one of those days is a public holiday.

Initiative introduced in 2019
The initiative, which increases the highway capacity to ease congestion during peak hours, was first introduced in October 2019 between the Setia Alam exit and the Shah Alam exit. It is to eventually be part of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) with electronic management, similar to the ones presently used in the United Kingdom and Holland.

Smartlane signs

Also used on other highways
The Smartlane approach has proven effective and has been applied on other PLUS highways during festive periods when the traffic volumes increase significantly. As these other Smartlanes are variable in activation, motorists should take note of announcements and signs which indicate their operation.

PLUS also advises motorists to maintain lane discipline and avoid frequently changing lanes. They should be prepared to merge with other lanes when the end of the Smartlane sector is reached.

As the Chinese New Year travels will soon be starting, it’s a good idea to have your vehicle checked and better still, serviced, for peace of mind if you are going on a long trip. It’s also a good idea to plan your journey by taking note of PLUS advisories on suitable travel times.
