50% discount on toll charges for Chinese New Year

It has been announced that travellers on the highways next week will enjoy a 50% discount on toll charges for privately-registered vehicles. The discount will be effective from 12.01 am on January 27 (Monday) until 11.59 pm on January 28 (Tuesday). It will be applicable at all toll plazas except those at the Sultan Iskandar Building and Tanjung Kupang in Johor.

Just a few days ago, the Works Minister said that the toll exemptions which are usually given during major festive periods will no longer be provided by the government. Understandably, this move is to save millions which has to be paid highway concessionaires as compensation.

‘Flip-flops’ or ‘u-turns’ are often criticised by the public when government leaders make an announcement about a major change – and then retract it. In this case, no one would be unhappy about this ‘u-turn’ (or partial ‘u-turn’).

Anyway, if you are motoring far next week, have a safe journey and take a break along the way if it is a long journey. Long periods behind the steering wheel can cause fatigue or you may get drowsy, so a stop for a coffee or just to stretch the legs will help to freshen you up. If it rains, switch on your lights and allow a bigger gap in case you need to brake suddenly.
