The new Proton S70 is the second model (after the X90) from the Malaysian carmaker which has been assessed with the tougher 2021-2025 protocols of ASEAN NCAP.
The crash tests were conducted at the China Automotive Technology and Research Centre which is affiliated with ASEAN NCAP and has been co-approved by EURO NCAP to perform full-scale crash tests and pedestrian sub-system impact tests.
The version used for testing was the S70 1.5T Executive, the lowest-priced of the four versions. Though not having the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) of the upper versions, the test unit was nevertheless equipped quite comprehensively with active and passive safety systems
Standard fitment includes 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for frontal and rear seats occupants, Blind Spot Detection for both sides of the vehicle, Child Presence Detection, Pedestrian Protection technology and Rear Collision Warning.
The S70 did particularly well in Adult Occupant Protection which assessed frontal impact, side impact and heard protection technology. This aspect contributed greatly to the overall score of 82.95 points which qualifies the new model to receive ASEAN NCAP’s full 5-star rating.
