Nissan vehicles have long been known for their economical operation, one of the reasons for the popularity of the brand among Malaysians for decades. This reputation continues till today, as proven recently with a Nissan Almera Turbo achieving 28.61 kms/litre.
The impressive consumption was achieved by the winner of the Nissan Lightfoot Quest 2024, Muhammad Nifail bin Basri of Kuala Lumpur. He was among the participants who drove a 203-km route which started at the Nissan 3S Flagship Store in Petaling Jaya, Selangor and ended in Ipoh, Perak.
Muhammad Nifail and his partner drove so economically that their Almera used only 7 litres of RON95 BHPetrol Infiniti fuel for the entire journey. The next two winners also achieved impressive figures of 27.31 kms/litre and 27.14 kms/litre, respectively.
This year’s Nissan Lightfoot Quest saw 30 teams comprising 21 owners driving their own Almera Turbo, along with 9 members of the media in identical cars prepared by Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM).

To ensure a level playing field and fuel efficiency levels that can be replicated in real-world conditions, every participating car had to be in their original, unmodified condition conforming to factory specifications and manufactured between 2020 and 2024.
Additionally, the participants’ cars had to retain their original seats, door cards and the spare wheel had also to be present in the boot. The driver was also required to be accompanied by a passenger 18 years of age and above.
Aside from adhering to the stipulated route, the challenge had to be completed within 3 hours. Following fuelling of the tank, tamper-proof stickers were placed on the fuel lid and inspected prior to refuelling and calculating the fuel consumption at the end of the journey.
Besides cash prizes of RM1,500, RM1,000 and RM500 for the top three winners, there were also consolation prizes of RM100 for another 5 top performers. All the prize winners also received BHPetrol vouchers ranging from RM1.500 to RM200.
“I would like to thank all the participants of the Nissan Lightfoot Quest 2024, particularly the passionate Nissan Almera owners and members of the media for pushing their cars and challenging themselves to unlock commendable levels of fuel efficiency in the Nissan Almera Turbo. The winning entry of 28.61 kms per litre is remarkable as this is much higher than the official fuel efficiency figures of the Nissan Almera Turbo at 18.4 kms per litre!” said Khoo Cheng Pah, CEO of Edaran Tan Chong Motor.
“Not only is the Almera Turbo stylish and fun to drive but its technologically-advanced turbocharged powertrain allows it to be responsive yet frugal in everyday use. With petrol prices expected to be adjusted upwards in the near future, the Nissan Almera Turbo is an even more compelling option in the B-sedan segment,” he added.
