As in other Car of the Year (COTY) awards in most countries, electrified models also took the top awards in the 2024 North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY).
The NACTOY awards, which goes back to 1994, began with just car and truck categories, but with the growing significance of SUVs, a Utility category was added from 2017 for such models.
There were 52 eligible models and by the Detroit Auto Show in September, the list was narrowed to the 25 vehicles deemed ‘The Best of 2024’ and then to 9 finalist. These were the Chevrolet Colorado, Chevrolet Silverado EV, Ford Super Duty, Genesis Electrified GV70, Honda Accord, Hyundai IONIQ 6, Hyundai Kona/Kona EV, Kia EV9, Toyota Prius/Prius Prime.
Over the course of the year, NACTOY’s 50 jurors spent hundreds of hours test driving, researching and evaluating vehicles on automotive innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, driver satisfaction, user experience and value, leveraging their experiences and expertise to cast their votes.
