Two Honda models today passed milestones in Malaysia with the delivery of the 170,000th Civic and the 150,000th HR-V. As with virtually all its models sold in Malaysia, they originated from the automaker’s own assembly plant in Pegoh, Melaka.
To celebrate this double achievement, the company held a special hand-over ceremony for the new owners of the cars at Honda Botanic Auto Mall Sdn. Bhd., a dealership in Klang, Selangor.
The 170,000th Civic is a 2-litre e:HEV RS, while the 150,000th HR-V is a 1.5-litre e:HEV RS and the lucky owners are Lim Chin Hui and Asha Waheda, respectively.
As a gesture of appreciation to mark the occasion, both owners were presented with an exclusive gift and Honda Genuine Accessories worth RM10,000.
Speaking at the ceremony, Honda Malaysia’s Managing Director and CEO, Hironobu Yoshimura, said: “We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all customers for their unwavering support and trust in the Honda brand. Honda models continue to receive growing popularity and demand thanks to our customers’ support. As we celebrate the delivery of the 170,000th Civic and 150,000th HR-V, we extend our sincere gratitude to both our customers for being part of Honda’s journey and helping us in achieving this significant milestone. Congratulations to both of our valued customers!”.
The Civic is now in its 11th generation and has been assembled in Malaysia since the very first generation came out in the 1970s.
As for the HR-V, this was among the new generation of compact SUVs when it was launched in 2015. Since that time, it has remained high on sales charts in its class, boosted by the strong demand for SUVs.
In the first half of 2024, Honda Malaysia delivered 39,226 vehicles, representing a 16% growth from the corresponding period in 2023.
The HR-V, which is the most popular model in the non-national Compact SUV Segment, was the biggest contributor and accounted for 28% of the brand’s total sales.
The second best-selling model in the first 6 months was the City (24%), followed by the CR-V (15%).
Honda Malaysia was the first company to locally assemble a model with a hybrid electric vehicle powertrain, the Jazz Hybrid in 2012. Since then, it has continued to promote its electrified models which use the technology now known as e:HEV.
To popularise e:HEV technology which helps in reducing both fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, Honda Malaysia has broadened the range of models which have it. Today, the range includes the City, City Hatchback, Civic, HR-V and CR-V.
Variants with e:HEV powertrains have shown a steady increase over the years and accounted for 13% of the vehicles sold in the first half of 2024.
