12th Art of Speed – Malaysia’s premier Old-Skool & Kustom Kulture event

The Art Of Speed (AOS) Malaysia event has grown tremendously since it began over 10 years ago. True to its original aim of giving the local customisation scene more exposure, the annual event has today become Malaysia’s premier Old-Skool & Kustom Kulture event.

2023 sees the 12th edition which was held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) outside Kuala Lumpur over the weekend.

It attracted over 65,000 visitors, young and old, who were immersed in a great variety of activities as well as viewing the numerous displays of cars and motorcycles.

Famed guests from overseas
Besides the showcase of customized vehicles



– which have been a major attraction of AOS since its earliest years – there were also famed guests from overseas whom visitors got to interact with.

These included ‘Sunny’ Yano and Hiro ‘Wildman’ Ishii from MOONEYES, Dino Dalle Carbonare and Global Alexander Iain from Speedhunters.com, Irvine Jasta and Fahmi Freeflow from Indonesia, among many others. Famous Hot Wheels designer Matt Gabe also came over from America and met fans at the event.

AOS and Hot Wheels
AOS and Hot Wheels have also had an association going back some years and for the 2023 event, there were more Hot Wheels activities than ever before.

The 1st Official Hot Wheels Collector Convention in South East Asia featured activities such as the Hot Wheels Rare and Collectibles Exhibition, Hot Wheels Skate School, Hot Wheels Swap Buy And Sell, Collector sharing sessions and Hot Wheels Custom Competition. Several lucky visitors were able to grab the limited-edition Hot Wheels Official Convention Car.

Hot Wheels Legends Tour
One of the highlights of at AOS 2023 was the Hot Wheels Legends Tour. This major international event has been hosted and presented by AOS in Malaysia since 2020. Even during the pandemic period when public gatherings were not possible, the Hot Wheels Legends Tour was presented online to a global audience.

This year, the event was held live in Malaysia for the first time. The outdoor carpark was filled with participants who entered the Official Malaysia competition on Sunday making it difficult for the local and international judges to select a winner.

After much deliberation, the judges finally selected the Custom Proton Arena of Mohd Shahlan bin Mohd Nasir as the winner. Like the Proton Suprima S of William Chong last year, Shahlan’s customised Arena will represent Malaysia in the global finals. The winning car for the year’s event will become a diecast model in the Hot Wheels range.

A notable event during AOS 2023 was the announcement of the winner of the Hot Wheels x Proton Kids Design Competition 2023. Besides receiving her prize, the artwork of 9-year old Jane Harn will be used for the packaging of the Limited Edition Hot Wheels Proton Saga which will be available in 2024.

Miss Art Of Speed
Also debuting at the show was the inaugural Miss Art Of Speed 2023. AOS, in collaboration with VANS, released two limited edition shoes and a special hardcover coffee table book to commemorate 10 years of Art Of Speed.

This year’s Kustom & Koffee Talk was hosted by Danial Malek from NoEqual.co and featured overseas panelists Winston Yeh from Rough Craft, Taiwan and Jap Loh from Wicked Wallop, Singapore. The forum discussed the latest trends in the motorcycle industry.

As with most such events, visitors had a chance to win great prizes and giveaways. These included a ZEUS e-bike, Honda e-DAX motorcycle, and a fully customised 1979 Toyota Celica.
