0 to over 750 EV charging points in 20 months

An important factor in the transition to electric vehicles is the charging infrastructure which is starting from zero. It’s the same in every country and in Malaysia, the government has set a target of 10,000 EV charging points nationwide by 2025.

Up to June this year, 2,606 charging points have been set up, according to the latest data from the MEVnet Dashboard. Although that’s only about a quarter of the target – with 17 months till the end of 2025 – the target is not being revised.

According to Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, the MITI minister, the companies which are setting up the charging stations have given assurance that they can still meet the target by the deadline.

Of the 2,606 charging points, the largest number have been set up by ChargeSini, which has established over 750 EV charging points nationwide. One-third of its charging points are located in condominiums, with another third in malls and supermarkets.

Cross-border convenience
To make it easier for motorists travelling between Malaysia and Singapore, ChargeSini formed a partnership with Charge+ which operates charging stations in the republic. Combining networks in two countries has created the largest Malaysia-Singapore EV charging network which motorists can access with a single app.
